Three system functions were expected. A relatively small proportion of subjects (15%) was able to identify the expected system functions without guidance; we observed a significant improvement when subjects were provided with the adequate guidance. This is shown in Figure 6 which compares the subjects’ ability to perform correctly the task with and without guidance. As Figure 6 shows, 39% of subjects who did not distinguish the three expected system functions without guidance were able to identify all of them once they were guided.

An Empirical Scenario for the Evaluation of Requirements Elicitation Tasks
While requirements elicitation has been established as a crucial phase of the systems development process, empirical research on the topic of requirements elicitation is sparse. In this paper we present a requirements elicitation scenario that can be used by researchers to evaluate different methods of eliciting a set of requirements. This scenario consists of an elicitation tasks, a system fea...

Requirements engineering (RE) is often seen as an essential facet in software development. It is a vital process before each project starts. In the context of systems engineering, an understanding and application of systems theory and practice is also relevant to RE. The contexts in which RE takes place habitually involve human activities. Therefore, RE needs to be sensitive to how people perce...
